Agriturismo El Brite de Larieto, Rio Gere restaurant
This crag is located near Rio Gere, which gives it its name. The climbing area is located at an altitude of 1,680 metres, sheltered by the forest and near a stream. For this reason, the ideal time to frequent the crag is in summer, on warm, sunny days. The panorama of Monte Cristallo is magnificent and will make the climb even more rewarding. The first pitches were climbed in the 1990s by Scoiattolo Diego Ghedina “Tomas”, to whom the beautiful “San Diego” route is dedicated. The climbing area features some 20 pitches, often overhanging, of considerable length (up to 40 m) on dolomite with holes and indentations. It is essential to be an intermediate or experienced climber as the pitches are of athletic and endurance type, most of them grade 7 (6a to 7c+), and the rope length must be at least 80 m. As the pitches are long and overhanging, the pitons are sometimes spaced out but solid and secure.
Approach: from Cortina, take the SR48 road towards Passo Tre Croci-Misurina and, shortly after passing the signpost for Agriturismo El Brite de Larieto (5 km from Cortina), park on the small clearing on the right (just before the Rio Gere car park). From here, take path 206 towards Mandres, cross the stream and climb up the steep slope, leaving path 206. The crag is obvious (even from the road) and, once you start climbing up the wooded slope, the base of the wall can be reached in 10-15 minutes.
