After reaching Rifugio Scoiattoli with the chairlift from Bai de Dones, head left towards the small, slender Torre Inglese. Having passed through the “tunnel” formed by the Torre Quarta Alta and the Torre Quarta Bassa, you’ll comes out right in the centre of the cluster of pinnacles, broken and toppled, the remains of the gigantic primordial collapse of Monte Averau.
Zigzagging just below these vertical walls, you’ll be able to see the pitons used in the summer by the many climbers who attempt the ascent of the Torri. It was here that the Cortina Mountain Guides began to teach climbing, first on small, specially prepared boulders and then on higher walls.
Leaving the Torri in an easterly direction, you’ll find yourself above the Rifugio Cinque Torri, and you can admire some isolated stone pines, always peculiar in their shape as it’s almost never linear, modelled by the forces of nature.
From the Rifugio Cinque Torri, descend along the small road for about 300 metres to the signposts for path 439 to Cianzopè. Following this path, you’ll reach the “Cason de Claudio”, a typical mountain hut where you can stop and admire the spires of the Croda da Lago.
Returning to path 439, continue skirting the “Boa di Cinque Torri”, enter the forest and you’ll reach a marked road that descends to Cianzopè (1732 m) and the Passo Falzarego road.
For this itinerary, it is advisable to have two cars: one at Bai de Dones and one at the entrance to the Cinque Torri trail at Cianzopè, at the middle station of the Skyline cable car, ready for the return journey.
