Description

From the car park, head towards the start of the Cinque Torri chairlift and follow the path, which is a ski slope during the winter, to the left of Rifugio Bai de Dones. Continue until you find the path sign for path 424 and follow it as you quickly enter the forest. After passing a first area that crosses a series of marshes, walk close to the edge of the Lago di Bai de Dones. As you follow the path, you can admire various views of the majestic Tofane, on your left, and relax in a peaceful environment. At the crossroads, take path 425, which will take you in about an hour and a half to the Rifugio Cinque Torri, set in spectacular surroundings of wild charm at the foot of the Cinque Torri. From here, you can admire the Croda da Lago and the Lastoi de Formin and the Nuvolau and Averau mountains, which loom on the horizon. Opened in 1904, it is one of the oldest historical establishments in the area and has an authentic family atmosphere. In the past, the mountain hut has hosted royalty and princes from all over the world, including King Victor Emmanuel III, and is still frequented by internationally renowned mountaineers. Just a few hundred metres away are the trenches of the Open Air Museum of the Great War and the Cinque Torri climbing wall, Cortina's best known and historically most important. The Cinque Torri, a true natural monument, offer over 200 equipped pitches of varying difficulty and length and represent one of the most classic crags in the Dolomites and the Alps. In order to experience the atmosphere of the early 20th century, when mountaineers from all over the world began to discover the beauty of the Dolomites, it is worth sitting down at the table to enjoy old-fashioned dishes, pampered by the warmth of the large tiled stove. Don't miss the traditional "casunziei", crescent-shaped ravioli filled with red beets, and the ricotta strudel. From Rifugio Cinque Torri you have two options for the return journey: either retrace the outward path, or climb to Rifugio Scoiattoli in about 30 minutes to admire the Cinque Torri from a different perspective, and then take the Seggiovia Cinque Torri chairlift, which will take you comfortably back to the car park.
