Rifugio Dibona
From Rifugio Dibona, take path 403, in the direction of Rifugio Giussani. The path, after a short flat section, begins to climb in zigzags almost to the base of the south face of the majestic Tofana di Rozes, one of Cortina's iconic mountains. Continuing the ascent along path 403, the panorama becomes increasingly barren and rocky, and the Vallon di Tofana gradually narrows until it reaches a flat, stony area in the presence of the Tofana di Rozes on one side and the Punta Anna, the famous peak part of the Tofana di Mezzo, on the other. The area is dotted with multiple traces of war posts and artefacts built by the military during the First World War. On a plateau to your left you will also be able to see the remains of the historic Rifugio Cantore. Continuing ahead, you will find the Rifugio Giussani in just a few minutes. Inaugurated in 1886 under the name Rifugio Tofana, it was the first mountain hut built on the Tofane and the second in the Ampezzo Valley. It was destroyed during the Great War and later rebuilt under the name Rifugio Cantore. In 1972, it was decided to build the mountain hut a third time, moving it to the Forcella Fontananegra, in the wide pass between the Tofana di Rozes and the Tofana di Mezzo. The original position close to the rocks was in fact very useful during the war but prone to water infiltration. The mountain hut, dedicated to mountaineer Camillo Giussani, offers a magnificent view, retains an authentic and traditional atmosphere and is a popular destination for mountaineers and hikers alike. The old Rifugio Tofana, on the other hand, has now been renovated and converted into a bivouac for the winter season. For the return journey, follow the same path as the outward journey until you reach the Rifugio Dibona again. The view is splendid: you can admire the Valle d’Ampezzo and some of its most beautiful mountains: from the Cinque Torri area, Averau, Nuvolau, Croda da Lago and Lastoi de Formin to Antelao and Sorapis.
