The speed in the soul. Whether on skis or at the wheel, on the track or in life, for Kristian Ghedina, only one thing matters: going fast.

And to tell the story of the great Ghedo, Una Montagna di Libri has in store for Friday, October 31st in Cortina not one, but two incredible previews.

The speed in the soul, whether on skis or behind the wheel of racing cars on the track, matters little. It is vital. Thirteen victories in the World Cup, thirty-three podiums, three world medals, the Olympic ones his Achilles' heel; at least until Dominik Paris came onto the scene, Kristian Ghedina was the strongest downhill skier Italy has ever put on the track since the epic times of Zeno Colò. He still has his own place among the greats of alpine skiing. A story that is the novel of a life marked by the pain of the tragic loss of his mother when he was only fifteen, and of a career divided in two, before and after the car accident in 1991 in which he nearly lost his own life. He has won and lost, fallen and gotten back up: always with a smile. "For me, the most beautiful victory is being who I am," he says. Kristian Ghedina has been, and still is, the champion of the people; he is pop, understood as "popular" in the purest sense of the term. In one word you say "Ghedo" and breathe empathy. An example of what a true champion should be.

6:00 PM with Ghedo. I’m not in a hurry but I go fast (Minerva), the strongest athlete in Italian downhill — thirteen World Cup victories, three world medals, and a legendary career — will tell his story with Lorenzo Fabiano. A life marked by pain, courage, and the smile of someone who never gave up.

And right after, at 7:00 PM, a second special appointment: the screening of Kristian Ghedina: Stories of Skiing, by Paolo Galassi, an adrenaline-fueled and captivating docu-film, which takes us from the Cortina Olympics of 1956 to Milan-Cortina 2026. Champions, slopes, anecdotes, and innovation in a journey that spans seventy years of Italian skiing history.
