Thirteen victories in the World Cup, thirty-three podiums, three world medals, the Olympic ones his Achilles' heel; at least until Dominik Paris came onto the scene, Kristian Ghedina was the strongest downhill skier Italy has ever put on the track since the epic times of Zeno Colò. He still has his own place among the greats of alpine skiing. A story that is the novel of a life marked by the pain of the tragic loss of his mother when he was only fifteen, and of a career divided in two, before and after the car accident in 1991 in which he nearly lost his own life. He has won and lost, fallen and gotten back up: always with a smile. "For me, the most beautiful victory is being who I am," he says. Kristian Ghedina has been, and still is, the champion of the people; he is pop, understood as "popular" in the purest sense of the term. In one word you say "Ghedo" and breathe empathy.
