The Edelweiss Post on Sass de Stria is a historical outpost reached by walking along several trench paths and barracks of the Great War that are still well preserved.
These were occupied by the Austro-Hungarian army and prevented the Italians from accessing Val Badia.
Another Austro-Hungarian post to visit in the open-air Museum of the Great War of Sass de Stria is the Postazione Tre Sassi, later called Vonbank from the name of the Commander: an Austro-Hungarian defensive trench with stakeouts, still preserved in excellent condition and easily walkable.
Between Sass de Stria and Lagazuoi, the Postazione Vonbank countered the Italian attacks from the Passo Falzarego.
In October 1915, the Martini Ledge, located on the Lagazuoi exactly above the Postazione Vonbank, was occupied by the Italians and this inevitably meant that the post became the object of continuous target.
