Stratofana Olimpica

Description

The Stratofana Olimpica, better known as Olympia delle Tofane, owes its name to the 1956 Winter Olympics for having hosted the men’s Alpine skiing race won by the Austrian Toni Sailer. Today it’s one of Cortina’s most famous and iconic descents: in 1990 Kristian Ghedina won the Downhill race on this slope The Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup races have been held there every January since 1993, and in February 2021 it was the venue for the Cortina Alpine Ski World Championships. This location will also host the women’s alpine skiing competitions during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Its 2,402 meters includes some famous and challenging passages: the Schuss, with its maximum gradient of 65%, where the Queens of Speed jump and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h; the Salto Duca d’Aosta and the blind passage of the Deltas; the challenging Gran Curvone and the subsequent gradient change of the Scarpadon.
