Scenic, medium-difficulty ski mountaineering trip at the base of the walls of the Torri del Falzarego and the Col dei Bos. From the car park near the Cason de Rozes on the Passo Falzarego, follow the path of the old military road dating back to the Great War. After a short stretch in a clearing, the path enters the woods and the slope increases slightly to gain altitude until continuing to the slopes of the rocks of Tofana di Rozes.
From here, continue until you reach a fork in the road: here, take the right-hand path along trail sign 402. Continue along the cart track to the Forcella Col dei Bos between the homonymous mountain and the majestic Tofana di Rozes, crossing a short but spectacular tunnel carved into the rock, then continue along the hairpin bends to the Forcella Col dei Bos at 2,332 meters above sea level. Like all the mountains in this area, the Col dei Bos was the scene of bloody fighting in World War I between Italians and Austro-Hungarians between 1915 and 1918. Bypassing the northern wall of the Col dei Bos, you’ll be able to attack the shoulder and reach the top, at a height of 2,559 m, after about thirty minutes.
As it is exposed to the wind, the final part of the route (from the fork to the summit) is very often covered with hard or icy snow. it is therefore advisable to pay close attention. From the summit you can admire the majestic Tofana di Rozes, the Cinque Torri, Lastoi de Formin and Croda da Lago, the Rifugio Lagazuoi and, behind you, the magnificent and wild Val Travenanzes.
For the return journey, follow the same route as the outward journey or along the Canale de ra Nona (only for experienced skiers). In this case, descend along the channel. Although at first it’s quite wide, from the middle onwards it becomes narrower but not particularly steep nor technical.
At the end of the channel, bear left (path 423) remaining at altitude, until you rejoin the uphill road of the outward journey.
It is strongly advisable to rely on Mountain Guides and consult the snow and meteorological service before any hike.
The indicated time is for a round trip.
Winter clothing, ski mountaineering equipment, avalanche rescue kit (ARTVA, shovel, probe).
