Difficult route but one that pays off with immense satisfaction: one of the most beautiful slopes in the world, the ascent to Forcella Staunies, once a ski slope, has today become a favourite destination among all ski mountaineers. Starting from Rio Gere, take the Cristallo chairlift that leads to the Son Forca mountain hut in a short amount of time.
Alternatively, you can go up to the mountain hut on skis, adding about 530 m of drop to the route. From there, follow path 080, passing under the old abandoned plant that led to Rifugio Lorenzi. At an altitude of 2,600 m, continue to the right until you reach the fork and the mountain hut mentioned above.
The drop of almost 750 meters means the use of crampons is essential and, at certain times, rope.
The enjoyable descent takes place by skiing the uphill channel, but with the alternative of continuing, without diverting through Son Forca, through the beautiful Val Padeon, then arriving at the ski lifts that will take you back to Son Forca.
