Why Cortina d'Ampezzo?

The name Cortina d’Ampezzo was given after the First World War. The residential nucleus built in the centre of the Ampezzo Valley was named Cortina, which means closed or fenced locality.

Since ancient times in the valley, where the Parish Church can be found today, there was a cemetery surrounded by a wall: for this reason, the place was called Cortina, meaning cemetery in Ladin.

Ampezzo is the specification of Cortina and originates from the Latin amplus, wide, in reference to the Boite Valley, more extensive here than in other areas.

Accessible and inclusive tourism

Cortina d'Ampezzo promises a welcoming and comfortable visit for everyone, including visitors with disabilities. Its commitment to the territorial project "Social and inclusive tourism in Veneto" brings about a social change that aims to spread the culture of accessibility.
