Every June it’s taken by athletes from around the world who participate in the Lavaredo Ultra Trail trail running competition of 120 km with 5,800 m of elevation gain. Starting from the centre of Cortina, take the SS 51 towards Dobbiaco, continue towards Cadin until you reach path 416/409 towards Passo Posporcora, then turn right onto path 408 towards Pian de ra Spines. From there, continue left along the dirt road 417, cross the Boite river and turn left and then right uphill along the dirt road to Sant’Uberto. Once you reach the parking lot, turn right onto the dirt road heading east. Go through the underpass and turn left until you reach the former railway, which you’ll follow for 2km until you reach path 203 on the right towards Val Padeon/Forcella Son Forca. Then go downhill along path 203 to Passo Tre Croci.
After crossing the road, take path 209 to Val Bona and the Hotel Cristallo. From there run uphill along path 120 towards Rifugio Città di Carpi, then leave it and take the path on the left towards Misurina/Lago di Antorno. Continue to the Rifugio Auronzo. From there, along path 101, go around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the Rifugio Locatelli. Descend along path 102 towards Lago di Landro. Once you reach the former railway, start climbing again towards the Passo Cimabanche: shortly after the pass, on the right, take path 108, a dirt road that leads to Forcella Lerosa. From this point the route is the same as the Cortina Trail. Cross the road and take path 209, which will lead you into the woods to Valbona, offering spectacular views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Once you reach Hotel Cristallo, continue uphill along path 120 towards Rifugio Città di Carpi, then leave it and take the path on the left towards Misurina/Lago di Antorno.
In front of you, you can admire the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Lago di Misurina, the largest natural basin in Cadore, to the right the Cadini and to the left the Cristallo and Popena. Once you reach the crystal-clear lake, it is worth stopping and admiring the Sorapiss massif behind you, which overlooks the enchanting Alpine lake. Once past the lake, at the crossroads, take the asphalt road on the right towards Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Here begins a seven-kilometre uphill road. From here continue uphill to Lago d’Antorno. From here the forest becomes increasingly sparse to make room for clearings, flowery meadows and high mountain views. Continue to the Rifugio Auronzo, and from there continue along path 101 which will take you around the majestic Tre Cime di Lavaredo to the Rifugio Locatelli, from where you can admire them in all their splendour. From here, descend along the Val Rienza following path 102 towards Lago di Landro.
Once you reach the former railway, start climbing again towards the Passo Cimabanche: shortly after the pass, on the right, take path 108, a dirt road that will take you to Lerosa, an enchanting clearing at the foot of the Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo and the Croda de R’Ancona. From here, continue along path 8 up to Ra Stua and continue downhill following path 6 up to Pian de Loa, until you cross path 10 and then path 401 which will take you to the wild Val Travenanzes. Climb up the long, wild Val Travenanzes for several kilometres. On your left you’ll see the Tofane Group and on your right first the Vallon Bianco and then the Gruppo Fanis. Continue along the valley to Forcella Col dei Bos, where you can enjoy an enchanting view: from Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri to Marmolada. Continue downhill along path 402 until you reach path 423 with a left deviation to the Rifugio Col Gallina. From here, cross the road downhill onto path 424 and then take path 440 towards Cinque Torri. Continue climbing until you reach the characteristic Rifugio Averau, located between Monte Averau and Monte Nuvolau.
Once you reach it, go down the dirt road until you reach path 452 on the left, which you should follow until you reach the Passo Giau, from where you can admire the Valle d’Ampezzo and the mountains that surround it. After crossing the road onto path 436 towards Forcella Giau and Forcella Ambrizzola, continue on path 434 through the wild Mondeval valley to Croda da Lago, with its characteristic mountain hut and enchanting Lago Federa. From here, take path 431 towards Lago d’Ajal and then 428 which leads to the characteristic Ladin village of Mortisa and then down to Cortina.
