Passo Falzarego
Passo Falzarego
The via ferrata degli Alpini runs along the entire route in the Piramide del Col dei Bos, in the Passo Falzarego area, west of Cortina. It was renovated in 2007 by the Alpini, who re-equipped the military route already used previously until the 1960s. The start of the route can be reached via a simple and pleasant hike, after leaving the car just below the Passo Falzarego peak, from “Grill Da Strobel”, which can also be reached by bus. From there, take the path that winds immediately behind the restaurant. Via zigzags, this will take you to the military road that reaches the base of the Torri del Falzarego. In the first part of the route you can admire the military hospitals of the First World War, built at the time to provide quick assistance to the wounded. After about twenty minutes you’ll reach the entrance of the via ferrata: here you’ll find a metal cable that will guide you along the entire route. The via ferrata begins with a fairly vertical section, requiring good training almost immediately. The route then winds between edges, rocky steps and exposed sections, all seasoned with the incredible and unforgettable panorama of the Dolomites from the Cinque Torri to the Marmolada. Once you reach a slightly flat stretch, the last part of the via ferrata begins, taking you to the top of Col dei Bos and the flat meadows that characterise the area. Climbing a few more minutes you’ll reach the summit cross. The view is magnificent – you’ll admire the Valle d’Ampezzo and the surrounding area. To return, take the path that leads to the fork between Col dei Bos and the Torri del Falzarego: here the route back to the Passo Falzarego is quite simple and downhill. The via ferrata, if accompanied by an Alpine guide, can also be done during the winter for an exciting and unusual experience.
