Fiames
Via ferrata for experts that runs along the southwest face of Col Rosà, north of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The view from the top, at 2,166 m, is spectacular: you can admire the Conca Ampezzana in all its beauty, surrounded by an expanse of mountains, from the Tofane to the Pomagagnon. The via ferrata is very exposed, intense and vertical in some sections, despite being very short. The cable anchors are very long, recommended only for those with good strength and stamina. From Cortina, head north towards Fiames and leave your car in the car park near Camping Olympia. From here, take dirt path 417 which initially runs alongside the campsite. Continue for about twenty minutes until the first crossroads. Here take path 408 into the woods, taking you in about an hour and 30 minutes, via steep bends, through the entire Val Fiorenza up to the Passo Posporcora. From here, following the signs, you’ll reach the start of the via ferrata via rocky steps. The ropes initially climb quite steeply up the rock and then alternate with edges and chimneys. The ledge has considerable exposure: this makes it the most spectacular part of the entire via ferrata but it’s important to pay maximum attention. Once you reach the top of Col Rosà, the Conca Ampezzana stretches out before you, surrounded by an expanse of mountains: from the Tofane to the Pomagagnon. To return, take path 447 from the top which, with a rapid descent, takes you back to path 417 in the Pian de Ra Spines area. Follow it until it crosses path 408 that you took on the outward journey and then continued to the car park.
