Via ferrata Olivieri to Punta Anna

Description

The via ferrata Olivieri to Punta Anna is not extremely long, but given the exposed, technical passages, it is considered appropriate for expert hikers. The via ferrata progresses on the buttress delimiting the Tofana di Mezzo and, through spectacular passages, leads to an altitude of 2,731 m. The view along the route is spectacular: a 360-degree panorama of the Dolomite peaks that will leave you speechless. The via ferrata is considered one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites.

From Cortina head towards Passo Falzarego and, before the Socrepes lifts, turn right and follow the signs for Ristorante Baita Piè Tofana where you’ll see a large car park. From here, take the chairlift to the Rifugio Pomedes at 2,305 m, one of the oldest mountain huts in the Valle d’Ampezzo located at the foot of the Tofane.

You can also reach the Rifugio Pomedes, and therefore the start of the via ferrata, by arriving by car at the Rifugio Dibona, where there is a large car park, and taking path 421.

At the arrival of the chairlift you’ll find the signs for the via ferrata. The trail starts right behind the arrival station of the ski lift and will take you in about 30 minutes to the start of the Punta Anna via ferrata, the large buttress bordering the Tofana di Mezzo.

The via ferrata begins immediately with vertical passages along the rock, which lead to a fork with a view of the majestic Tofana di Rozes. The entire route alternates between challenging vertical passages, which require good training, and small forks, which allow you to admire the surrounding peaks.

From the top of Punta Anna at 2,731 m, you’ll admire an incredible view, a 360 degree panorama of all the Ampezzo Dolomites. From here you can admire the Croda da Lago and the Becco di Mezzodì, the Tofane and the valley below.

From the top of Punta Anna, continue along the ridge until you reach the crossroads, take the path on the left along the scree of Bus di Tofana and then descend along the scree of Valon de Tofana, to emerge just below the Rifugio Giussani. The descent along the scree requires good mountain experience and high-quality hiking boots.

From there, if you have a car at Rifugio Dibona, take path 403 which will take you directly to the starting point. If you started from the Ristorante Baita Piè Tofana, take path 403 towards the Rifugio Dibona, but at the crossroads, take the Sentiero Attrezzato Astaldi on the left, which will take you directly to the Rifugio Pomedes. From here you can take the chairlift down to the car park.
