Description

The Ra Bujela via ferrata was created in collaboration with the Cortina Mountain Guides Group and is named after Maria and Andrea Ferrari, whose family financed part of the work. Ra Bujela is suitable for everyone and is equipped with two suspended walkways of 7 and 3 meters. Climb up the entire right-hand Pomedes tower facing the Tofana. This route offers one of the best views of Cortina, including a view of the entire valley and a glimpse of the imposing Tofana.

The starting point of the via ferrata is easily reachable via the ski lifts: you can reach the starting point of the route via the chair lift that ascends from Piè Tofana. Furthermore, in the immediate vicinity, you’ll find the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta and the Rifugio Pomedes, where you can enjoy a break or try one of the delicacies on offer. The route is 150 metres long on the wall and 100 metres on the crest, with a drop of 100 metres and an estimated travel time of around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

This route was designed as a practice run suitable for those who are tackling equipped routes of this type for the first time. The first section is one of the most difficult as it is very vertical and should not be underestimated. It includes exposed steps and edges, and will take you to a scenic point where you can admire the entire beauty of the Valle d’Ampezzo. Continue towards the ledge along a slightly exposed stretch – you’ll reach the first suspension bridge and shortly after the second, two very exciting points on this route. Cross the bridge and then tackle a slightly complicated corner as it is exposed and vertical, but easily passable thanks to the metal rope and additional supports. Following this section the rope forks and, continuing upwards, you’ll arrive on the crest of the mountain, reaching the summit at 2,257 m. From here you can enjoy the imposing view of the Dolomites that never fails to impress.

Very often the Ra Bujela via ferrata is done in combination with the Ra Pegna in order to cover both Schuss towers in a single day.

To descend, go back to where the rope forks and follow the metal cable that will take you along a short equipped descent until you reach the path. From there you can reach the Rifugio Pomedes or return to the starting point by descending the ski slopes or along path 420b which will gently take you to the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta.
