Description

Take the little road that follows the western shore of the romantic Lago di Braies as far as the first inlet, then enter the comfortable path 1 that follows the shoreline to its southernmost tip. The ascent begins here, becoming steeper and more tiring along the valley dominated by the first offshoots of the Croda del Becco. As you ascend a hollow thick with mountain pines, you will come to a bottleneck created by two rocks from which you bypass the jump, passing to the left and then into the upper groove. After passing a forest, you’ll come to a concave clearing and then to an area strewn with boulders where, if you are careful, you can find a small spring. Zigzagging you will finally reach the gap called Porta sora 'l Forn (or Forcella sora Forno-Ofenscharte), at 2,388 m, near a votive chapel. Descending a little further, you will finally reach the Rifugio Biella at the Croda del Becco, at 2,327 m, overlooked by the immense rocky slab of the distinctive and distinctive Croda del Becco, at 2,810 m. The summit is easily reached via a discrete rock path in about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the mountain hut, and the view from the summit is wonderful. Rifugio Biella, a massive three-storey masonry construction, isolated in a moon-like clearing. Built in 1906 and rebuilt in 1926, it serves as a small hotel and is typically open from mid-June to mid-September.
