Rifugio Biella
Rifugio Fanes
From the Rifugio Biella to the Rifugio Sénnes (in Ladin Ücia de Sénes), you can follow either of the routes below: The convenient little road no. 6 that makes a huge S and leads quietly to the mountain hut in about an hour or so, for about one kilometre on this small road, then along the path that branches off to the right (south-west altitude 2,260 m also marked no. 6) up the moor to the nearby wide ridge. Then over the opposite grassy depressions it descends to the south-west, then south, to the dirt road from where it soon reaches the Rifugio Sénnes, at 2,116 m, taking about the same amount of time as the previous one, but more interesting in terms of flora and panorama. The Rifugio Sénnes, privately owned, is located near the characteristic complex of mountain cottages that grace the grazing plateau of the Alpe di Sénnes, a place of serenity and peace of mind. Against this backdrop appear the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo, the Cristallo and the Fànes. Open with hotel service from the beginning of June to mid-October, it has around 50 beds. From the Rifugio Sénnes, take the little road no. 7 heading south, first continuing slightly downhill through grassy depressions across the vast Pian della Lasta, then, leaving the path (also marked no. 7) to Rifugio Fodàra Vedla and continue south-west along the small road. Finally, the path enters the narrow gully between the Pici Parëis and Col de Rü and quickly descends the narrow hairpin bends to the flat expanse where the Rifugio Pederü, at 1,548 metres, is located. The Rifugio Pederü is also privately owned and operates from the beginning of June to mid-October. It offers 24 beds. Mountain hut telephone number: +39 0474 50 10 86. Email: [email protected] From the Rifugio Pederü, the Alta Via delle Dolomiti n. 1 continues to the Valùn de Fànes in a very interesting environment. There is an option to be transported by the manager's off-road vehicle to Rifugio Fànes. If you decide to continue on foot instead, you can follow both the road and the shortcuts on path 7, passing through a desolate, almost lunar, highly atmospheric environment. The surrounding peaks are strangely coloured and have their own special charm. Past the delightful little lake Le Piciodèl, at 1,819 m, you’ll pass the Rü dal Plan (Torrente del Piano), climb a few hairpin bends and, at an altitude of 1,988 m, turn decisively south. At an altitude of 2,022 metres, leave the road to the right for the nearby Ücia Lavaréla (Rifugio Lavarella, at 2,042 metres), cross a small bridge and reach the Ücia de Fànes or Rifugio Fànes, at 2,060 metres. The Rifugio Fànes, established in 1928, is a beautiful, wood-panelled and very comfortable building with some 70 beds, bar and restaurant. Open from early June to mid-October and from 26 December to mid-April. Mountain hut telephone number: 0474 453001. Email: [email protected]. The nearby Rifugio Lavarèlla is a little smaller and more modest, but cosy. Open from early June to early October, it serves as a small hotel with around 50 beds. Path 7-12 connects it to the Alta Via a little south of the Rifugio Fànes. It features a winter shelter. Mountain hut telephone number: +39 0474 50 10 79. Email: [email protected]
