Rio Gere car park
Rifugio Mietres
From the Rio Gere car park, head towards the valley, to the right of the car park, along path 211, which will take you in a few minutes to the traditional El Brite de Larieto mountain. cottage. In fact, “brite” in the local language means “mountain cottage”, while “larieto” refers to the larch grove that embraces the mountain cottage. Along the way you can watch cows and horses grazing or see the cows inside the barn. The mountain cottage and its large open-air terrace are an ideal rest stop to enjoy dishes or snacks with traditional and authentic flavours: butter, cheese, yoghurt, ice cream, bread, meat and salami are all locally produced. From Brite de Larieto, the path plunges into the enchanting larch forest, the largest in Europe and one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites. In the springtime, you can see larch trees laden with red buds and with soft, light green needles. In autumn, on the other hand, these beautiful trees are tinged with warm shades of orange, yellow and red, creating a magical atmosphere that will leave you spellbound. As you follow the path, you will occasionally see glimpses of Monte Faloria on your left and catch a glimpse of the ski slopes. After half an hour, when the path forks, take the road to the left. In just a few minutes, the larch forest opens up to reveal a beautiful open clearing, surrounded by forest and wonderful mountains, where your eyes are lost in the beauty of nature, offering an all-round view of the Dolomites: the Pomagagnon stands out imposingly behind the characteristic Rifugio Mietres, behind it is Monte Cristallo, and on your left you can admire Faloria, Sorapis, Tofane and the entire Valle d’Ampezzo. The mountain hut's large terrace is sun-kissed until sunset. The facility also offers the possibility of taking a dip in a barrel bath with heated water and a Finnish sauna (both upon reservation), as well as themed dinners, tastings and musical evenings. In winter, it is a popular destination for snowshoe and ski tours. For the return journey you can follow the same route as on the outward journey.
