The Bivacco degli Alpini is a barrack dating back to the First World War on the north-eastern ridge of the Tofana di Mezzo, below the Formenton.
Nestled among the rocks at 2,992 m of altitude, the war shelter was originally built by Italian troops on the front already in the early stages of the Great War in the Dolomites.
It was inaugurated in 1982 by the management company Tofana – Freccia nel Cielo and is now an excellent base for hikers.
