During the Great War the Austrians made the Sasso di Stria one of the most important positions on the Dolomite front.
The Sass de Stria is located next to the road of the Passo Valparola, between Monte Lagazuoi and Col di Lana.
It took on a fundamental role in the defence against Italian attacks that aimed to reach Val Badia and from there the Pusteria and Brenner Pass.
Thanks to its strategic position, the wide view of the Italian front and the ease of access from the Austro-Hungarian side, posts, trenches and tunnels were built up to the summit, transforming the Sasso di Stria into one of the protagonists of the war fought at high altitude.
Today, thanks to the work of the Alpini of the Civil Protection of the ANA, Treviso Section, the stations and walkways have been made passable.
The ascent to the summit can be done along the trenches or along the Goiginger tunnel, with easy and exciting walks, also suitable for children. Or by climbing along the Mario Fusetti via ferrata.
