Description

The Sci Club 18 is a very difficult via ferrata, for expert hikers only, which goes up the entire Crepe di Faloria up to the RIfugio Faloria. This is a breathtaking route that allows you to see the entire Valle d’Ampezzo and the Dolomites that surround it. The via ferrata was built in 2009 by the Cortina Mountain Guides and the Società Faloria and was subsequently dedicated to the Sci Club 18. This via ferrata requires good training and experience as the route progresses almost entirely vertically and features some very exposed sections. From Cortina bus station, take the Faloria cable car to the intermediate station of Mandres where, once you get off, you’ll take path 206 to the start of the route. The approach takes about an hour: the first part in the woods and the second along a gravel channel. The via ferrata runs along the entire face of the Crepe di Faloria under the cable car track and includes various edges and overhanging passages which are lightened by steps and diagonal ledges. Going back up, you can stop to admire the entire valley behind you, the Cristallo and the Tofane which majestically close the basin in contrast with Monte Faloria. Once you reach the end, you’ll come out under the arrival of the Faloria cable car. The view is incredible: all of Cortina is before your eyes, the Dolomites embracing the Conca Ampezzana. To return, take the Faloria cable car to Cortina or, alternatively, go down path 212, at the start of which you can admire the old cable car station that was chosen as the set for the filming of “Cliffhanger” starring Silvester Stallone.
