Great War Ski Tour

Difficulty

Medium

Time

8 h

Description

90 km, of which about 40 km with skis on feet, among history and nature.

You’ll experience perfectly snowy slopes, exhilarating altitudes, unique landscapes, ice falls, among the most beautiful mountains in the Dolomites.

During the winter months you can do everything in one day: ski buses, slopes and lifts create a ring that touches Passo Giau, Passo Falzarego, Val Badia, Arabba, Marmolada, Alleghe, all around the Col di Lana.

Start from Civetta with a bus that takes you to the Fedare mountain hut in Passo Giau, the starting point of the chairlift that goes up to the Averau mountain hut. At Cinque Torri you’ll be able to see the Italian trenches. From the terrace of the mountain huts you can enjoy wonderful views of Col di Lana, Tofana di Rozes, Castelletto and Col di Bos. At Passo Falzarego, take the cable car to Lagazuoi to reach the highest point of the tour, at a whopping 2,800 meters. From the cable car cabin you can see the openings of the Italian mine tunnel and the Tre Sassi Fort on the road to Passo Valparola.

On Lagazuoi, visit the Austrian machine gun station and just below the guard post with the official shack, skis on feet. You’ll descend the Armentarola slope in one of the most incredible environments in the Dolomites. At the bottom, a horse tow takes skiers to the slopes of Val Badia where they continue to Arabba, Padon and Marmolada.

Starting from the 2021-2022 winter season, you can reach the Falzarego and Lagazuoi-Cinque Torri-Giau ski areas directly from Cortina thanks to the Cortina Skyline cable car.

In order to complete the tour comfortably, we recommend setting off early in the morning.
