Crossing to Forcella Pomagagnon

Description

Beautiful crossing in the Pomagagnon complex that starts from Podestagno arriving at Fiames.

Suitable for intermediate ski mountaineers with a fairly good downhill technique.

For this route, take the SS51 road in the direction of Dobbiaco and leave a car at the height of the Podestagno roadman’s house (km 112). Given the different arrival point, you’ll need to leave another car in Fiames or take the SAD 445 bus in the direction of Dobbiaco and return to Ospitale.

Take path 201, first following the cross-country slope and then a mule track that runs along the Rio Bianco gorge. Once you arrive at the intersection with path 202, which goes up from Val Padeon, follow it through Val Pomagagnon. Leaving the woods, you’ll find yourself in front of a vast plateau (Prati di Pomagagnon). From here you can easily climb the homonymous fork (2,178 m). From here you’ll descend along the channel on the other side of the fork, not too steep and very wide, suitable therefore for those who want to approach more difficult descents.

At the end of the forest you’ll meet path 202 and follow it to the town of Fiames.

The channel, being exposed to the south-east, sunbathes late in the morning and the snow cover conditions change rapidly: it is therefore advisable to choose the appropriate time for this type of route.

For this reason, the route is ideal even during the spring season.
