The Lago Pianozes loop trail, about ten kilometres long, offers unexpected views and hidden areas of Cortina, all not too far from the centre of the Queen of the Dolomites. The route winds from the centre towards the south through green meadows, woods and all the serenity of nature.
Starting from the centre, head towards the convent area, just below the A.R. Apollonio tennis court and take the dirt road immediately after the parking lot. Continue the route on the dirt road in the middle of the meadows until you reach the houses of Campo di Sopra.
Here you can admire some of the most beautiful peaks of the Valley such as Becco di Mezzodì and Antelao.
Pass through Campo di Sotto keeping to the right and take the road on the left passing the bridge where a short climb looms. After this, a clearing opens up where you can admire the Lago di Pianozes in a unique atmosphere of shadows and small visitors such as ducks and dormice. Go along the lake on the left and take path 449 which winds through the woods. Along this route you’ll find bridges, streams, and lunch areas, all along a flat path surrounded by majestic trees. This will take you to the area south of Cortina, Socol.
Once you have finished the descent, cross the bridge and go along the Pian da Lago area on the left, famous for its large community of artisans, and you’ll arrive at the Trampolino Olimpico area.
The Trampolino Italia is one of the symbols of the 1956 Olympics, hosted in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Once you have passed this, and the short climb, take the former railway cycle path in the centre of Zuel which crosses the entire valley. Continue along the cycle path until you reach the station and from there you’ll be back in the centre in a few minutes.
