Description

Easy via ferrata that runs along the tower to the left of the Schuss, part of the Stratofana, just above the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta. This route is suitable for beginners and families with children as the climb progresses gently along the ledges, apart from a few slightly vertical passages. The panorama includes the imposing Tofane and the wide Valle d’Ampezzo. From Cortina, head towards Passo Falzarego and, before the Socrepes lifts, turn right and follow the signs for the Ristorante Baita Piè Tofana, where you’ll find a large car park. From here, take the chairlift, which will take you to the Rifugio Duca D’Aosta, located at the foot of the Tofane. The starting point of the via ferrata can be reached from here in a couple of minutes: reach the lowest rocks of the tower where you’ll find the via ferrata sign and the first metal cable, where you have entered the grassy channel. The via ferrata runs along the Torrione to the left of the Schuss, a few metres from the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta. The route does not present major difficulties and is suitable for those who want to approach the world of via ferratas or for young hikers. Very often the Ra Pegna via ferrata is done in combination with the Ra Bujela via ferrata to cover both towers in a single day. The metal rope will take you below a yellow overhang, already visible from the mountain hut. You’ll have to cross below the overhang (this is easy), towards the right, until you reach the edge. Here you’ll have to climb a small grey wall with one of the most challenging passages of the via ferrata, slightly diagonal to the left. You’ll then face a beautiful ledge exposed to the left that leads to another wall. Continue first to the left and then to the right until you reach the top of the grassy slopes. The view that opens up once you reach the top does justice to the majesty of the Tofane and offers a glimpse of the Valle d’Ampezzo. For the descent, go down the west side towards the Rifugio Pomedes along some rocks until you reach a vertical ladder that will take you to a small fork where the route ends. At this point you can easily reach the Rifugio Pomedes, just above, and from there, take path 420b, which will gently take you back to the Rifugio Duca d’Aosta.
