Rifugio Vazzoler
Rifugio Carestiato
having left the peaceful oasis of the Rifugio Vazzolèr, follow the road that goes north for a while, into the woods, until you reach the Val dei Cantoni stream bed at an altitude of 1,685 m where it turns abruptly to the east to continue towards Pian de le Taie and the junction with path 558 that climbs towards the cyclopean Torre Trieste. Continue to descend along the unpaved road (which leads through Val Corpassa to Capanna Trieste and Listolàde, on State Road 203, in the Agordìno). At the second large bend at an altitude of 1,430 m, in Sass da la Dispensa with a small green pasture clearing, path 554 branches off to the left (south), which is to be followed. Past a gravel flow, path 554 slowly rises halfway up the hillside among the mugo trees below the high precipices of the Castello delle Nevère, then crosses a small valley, reaches a small plateau and continues under the looming gravel flows (Giarói or Ghiaioni del Palanzìn) to the grassy Forcella di Col Palanzìn, at about 1,700 m. The path continues among the baranci, then cuts across the gravel on reddish outcrops and reaches the Forcella Col de l'Orso, at about 1,700 m. After crossing a grassy, barren bank, we now continue along the rocks to the Forcella del Camp, at 1,933 m, from where the path heads north over the spur. Approx. 2 and a half hours from Rifugio Vazzolèr. Now, cross under the Tridente and the beautiful Torri del Camp, now in view of the southern sector of the Moiazza. Descending to the east into the Van dei Cantói, you’ll cross an area of woodland, pass through Le Stamère and then, below the Pala delle Masenàde, without excessive differences in altitude, ascend over scree and baranci to Col dei Pass, where the Rifugio "Bruto Carestiato" stands, at 1,834 metres. 4 hours from Rifugio Vazzolèr. Owned by the Àgordo Section of the CAI, the Rifugio Carestiato was built in 1948 and renovated in 1971 on Col dei Pass in a beautiful location. Open from mid-June to mid-September, it serves as a small hotel with 34 beds and 9 in the winter room. Lighting with generator. Indoor toilets available. Shower and hot water available.
