Passo Giau
Passo Giau
From the Passo Giau car park, take path 436 to the Col Piombin pass, about 20 minutes away. From here you can see many grazing cows and, if lucky, hear the whistles of marmots and see some of them. The Passo Giau is a place of incredible beauty, immersed in meadows and surrounded by some of the most incredible mountains in the Dolomites. You can admire the Valle d’Ampezzo from above, the Gusela del Nuvolau, the Croda da Lago, the Lastoi de Formin and Monte Cernera. The pass is historically significant: in fact, the Giau pastures were once disputed between the Serenissima Republic of Venice and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In addition, it is considered a must-see for cyclists and motorcyclists. For the return, follow the same path back to the starting point. Make sure you stop at the traditional Berghotel Passo Giau restaurant.
Berghotel Passo Giau
For those who wish to make the hike longer, you can continue from Forcella Col Piombin to Forcella Giau along path 436.
