Capanna Alpina
Capanna Alpina
Long and at times challenging trip, with short steel cable safety devices on the climb to the summit area. It is not a typical route for lovers of via ferratas who are “in search of iron”, but it progresses through an evocative environment that’s not among the most visited, especially after the Malga Gran Fanes. Access is at the Capanna Alpina hotel at the end of Armentarola, where you’ll take path 11 leading through Col de Locia to Col Tadega at 2,157 m. Continue towards Malga Gran Fanes and five minutes before the mountain cottage take path 17 on the right. We go up to the deviation on the right for Monte Castello which we pass and take the path on the left towards Vallon Bianco. Further up you cross a large valley, continue left again and climb among the rocks along zigzags. After some remains of positions from the First World War you’ll reach a crossroads – continue straight on following signs for Vallon Bianco. Climb along zigzags that are sometimes exposed, bear left at the fork (on the right is a path to climb to the Furcia Rossa peak) and, even higher up, you’ll cross a deep crack in the rock thanks to a bridge. Proceeding in a zigzag and along ledges, some secured with steel cables, the path leads to the summit where you’ll find numerous remains of the Great War. The descent takes place on the same path as the ascent.
