Description

Simple via ferrata that will allow you to complete the tour of Averau and conquer the famous summit cross. The route is accessible to everyone, including families, starts along a scree slope and progresses into the mountain cave up to the summit. From there you can admire the view of the entire valley with a look at the Cinque Torri and the majestic Tofana di Rozes. To get to the Rifugio Averau, leave your car at the Bai de Dones car park and take the chairlift to the Rifugio Scoiattoli. From there, path 439 will take you directly to the fork of the mountain hut of the same name. If you wish to reach the mountain hut on foot, you can, after leaving your car at Bai de Dones, take path 424 on the left until the first fork and then path 425 through the woods to the Rifugio Cinque Torri. Once there, continue along the dirt road until you reach the Rifugio Scoiattoli at 2,255 m. If you start from Passo Falzarego, take path 441-419 which will accompany you along the Croda Negra. The route lasts about an hour and 30 minutes and will take you to the foot of the Rifugio Averau. From the mountain hut, continue north along the path that leads to the climb on the scree at the base of Monte Averau. Once past this, after about fifteen minutes, take the start of the equipped path at the north-east gorge of the Averau. The crossing begins diagonally until you reach the edge, with a vertical climb of a few meters. Between a chimney and some stepped rocks you’ll reach the crest and then the summit cross. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view: on the horizon you’ll see the Pelmo, the Civetta, the Antelao, the Sorapis, the Cinque Torri and the majestic Tofana di Rozes. To return, retrace the same path taken to reach the top. It is important to pay attention to the presence of other hikers who are walking the same uphill stretch and avoid dropping rocks.
