Rifugio Scoiattoli
Bai de Dones
From the Bai de Dones car park, you reach the Rifugio Scoiattoli in just a few minutes by chairlift. The mountain hut is located at the foot of the Cinque Torri, one of the most unique and famous rock formations in the Dolomites, and is known for its excellent cuisine. From here, head towards the Cinque Torri following the signs for the museum route. The path takes you past trenches and trenches from the First World War, while crossing the Cinque Torri. Looking up, on a clear day you will notice many climbing enthusiasts, of whom the Cinque Torri is a favourite destination in the area. When you reach the eastern slope of the Torri, you can either take the very well-preserved trenches of the ridge that descends to the east until you reach the asphalt road, or continue the route until you reach the Rifugio Cinque Torri, with its warm family atmosphere, which is located at the top of an asphalt road that descends towards the forest. Follow it until you take path 425 at a hairpin bend, which will take you through the forest to the Lago di Bai de Dones. It is said that this small stretch of water, which offers a beautiful view of the Tofana di Rozes, was inhabited by anguane, water nymphs in the local tradition endowed with magical powers and capable of unleashing storms. Continue along the same path to soon reach the Bai de Dones car park, the starting point of the hike. The Rifugio Bai de Dones, above whose door stands the image of an eel, offers one last rest stop to quench one's thirst or enjoy traditional dishes before returning.
