Rifugio Pomedes
Baita Piè Tofana
From Piè Tofana take the chairlift to Rifugio Duca d'Aosta and continue by taking the second chairlift to the Rifugio Pomedes, but not before looking at the Schuss, a section of the Olympia Tofane ski slope that is particularly well known because it is very steep and in a particular position between two imposing boulders. During the ascent by chairlift, you can admire the steep slope from above and enjoy a breathtaking panorama. You will then reach Rifugio Pomedes, which stands at 2,303 metres in a splendid scenic position, perched at the base of the buttresses of Tofana di Mezzo. Its famous terrace offers a unique and breathtaking view of the Valle d’Ampezzo and the surrounding mountains. From the mountain hut, built in 1955 on the occasion of the Olympics held in Cortina in 1956, you can see the start of the World Cup ski races held in Cortina and the famous Olympia ski slope on the Tofane. The hut is also a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers, as it is in an optimal location for various routes and via ferratas, such as the famous Punta Anna. From the Rifugio Pomedes, take the steep path 421, which leads in about half an hour to the Rifugio Dibona, in the presence of the majestic Tofana di Rozes. The hut, originally built during the Great War and later dedicated to the well-known mountain guide Angelo Dibona, has a large, sunny scenic terrace and offers excellent traditional cuisine. From here, continue to descend along the dirt road to the second crossroads with path 405, which leads back to the starting point at Baita Piè Tofana. This renowned and cosy chalet was originally built as a small house at the foot of the Tofane to host the timekeepers of the 1956 Winter Olympics, and today offers a cuisine based on a selection of Italian ingredients.
