Passo Falzarego
Piccolo Lagazuoi
From the Passo Falzarego, take the Lagazuoi cable car. At the cable car station you will find a high altitude museum, the Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomites, which offers exhibitions and photographic displays and can be visited free of charge. After the visit, it takes only a few minutes to reach the Rifugio Lagazuoi, an ideal rest stop from whose terrace there is a spectacular view to the south and west over a sea of mountains. Here and along the surrounding paths and tunnels, guided tours are organised in summer by historical re-enactors in World War I era uniforms. It is advisable to climb up the short path between paths and fortifications from the Great War, to the summit of the Piccolo Lagazuoi at the famous Lagazuoi crucifix, which commemorates the victims of the First World War and is the highest point of the hike. Along the way, you can admire a great variety of flowers that enrich the barren, rocky terrain with a thousand colours during the summer season. Some species, such as the Artemisia Genepì, are very rare and have found an ideal habitat near the mountain hut. Return to the Rifugio Lagazuoi and then descend along path 401 to the Forcella Lagazuoi at 2,583 m. On the descent you can admire the imposing Tofana di Rozes in front of you. Take path 402 and follow it to Forcella Travenanzes and then to the cable car departure point.
