Description

From Rifugio Fànes (locally known as Ücia de Fànes) follow the little road no. 10-11 which, after conquering three narrow hairpin bends uphill, leads onto the lunar plateau that leads to the Passo di Limo (Ju de Limo), at 2,174 metres, and the nearby Lago di Limo (Lé de Limo), at 2,159 metres. To the south of the lake, you’ll first meet path 10, then the small road with the same number. Both turn left to head into Val di Fànes and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Instead, continue to the right along dirt road no. 11 following the grazing bumps and you’ll soon reach Ücia de Gran Fànes (Malga Fànes Grande), at 2,100 m. Shortly after the mountain cottage, path 17 branches out to the left - this is neglected in order to follow path 11 in in a south-western direction. This leads to the Ju da l'Ega (Passo Tadéga), at 2,157 m, from which one ascends south along the Gran Pian. At an altitude of 2,117 m, just before the little white road ends, take path 20b to the left, which climbs steeply up to the Forcella del Lago, at 2,486 m, between the bold Torre del Lago and the grandiose Cima Scotóni in the Gruppo di Fànis. From the pass, descend southwards over steep scree until you reach the stunning oasis of Monte de Lagazuòi, where the magic eye of the small Lago Lagazuòi, at 2,182 m, shines, in which the bold architecture of the Torre del Lago and Cima Scotóni is reflected, with the immense rock gate of Cima Fànis Sud. Skirt the lake on the eastern shore and, shortly afterwards, leave path 20b coming off to the east and continue on path 20 to the south. The good path reaches Forcella Lagazuòi at 2,573 metres. From here it finally climbs to the Rifugio Lagazuòi, at 2,752 m, and the arrival station of the cable car from the Passo Falzàrego. The Rifugio Lagazuòi is a cosy building connected to the Passo Falzàrego by a daring cable car. Almost always open and privately owned, it serves as a small hotel with 74 beds and is an excellent stopover place also by virtue of the spectacular panorama, particularly impressive at sunset and sunrise.
