Croda de r’Ancona round trip

Partenza

Cortina d'Ampezzo

Arrivo

Cortina d'Ampezzo

Descrizione

Route that takes place almost entirely inside the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites and leads you along the entire Croda de r’Ancona, a unique yet little-known area of Cortina. The whole route winds its way north of the Valley, in the area of Croda de r’Ancora and the Natural Park, extending for 11,200 hectares in the Cortina area.

Starting from the centre of Cortina, head towards the station to take the former railway cycle path towards Fiames. Once you reach the “Antonella De Rigo” sports centre, continue along the railway and then pass through a tunnel, a bridge and another tunnel.

On the left, take a dirt road and take path 201, going under the underpass of State Road 51 and then going down to Sant’Uberto (just above Tornichè). From here, take the asphalt road towards Ra Stua until you reach the mountain cottage with the same name. Once you arrive at the cottage, keep straight for a short distance, then take path 8 on the right which will take you along the slopes of the Croda de r’Ancona: this area of Cortina is well-known for its magical Lerosa clearing and its lush pastures.

The route initially starts with a gentle climb and includes some bends to lead you under the mountain. The route becomes flat and gentle: you’ll find yourself at times in the middle of the woods, at other times in a magical clearing. Path 8 will take you to Lago Bianco and from there, following the road, you’ll be able to go back and rejoin path 10 at Sant’Uberto. Take path 10 and return to the centre of Cortina.
