Description

This hike offers beautiful varied panoramas: from the view of Cortina from Passo Giau to the grassy expanses surrounded by Dolomite peaks at Mondeval, to the splendid Lago Fedèra and the surrounding forests. The hike starts at Passo Giau, along path 436 leading to Forcella Giau and the Mondeval plateau - from here there is a breathtaking view of the Pelmo. The Mesolithic burial site of the famous Mondeval Man, dating back over 7,500 years, is preserved here. The hike continues on the same path to Forcella Ambrizzola, from where the descent begins along path 434 to the picturesque Lago Federa, overlooked by the Becco di Mezzodì, the Croda da Lago and the Rifugio Croda da Lago. Skirt the lake and continue along the same path, then take path 437 and descend through the forest to Ru Curto, the end point of the trip, along the State Road to Passo Giau. As departure and arrival do not coincide, you can travel with two cars or, better still, leave the car at Ru Curto on the outward journey and take the bus from there to Passo Giau (check the timetable on the Dolomiti Bus website), recovering the car at the end of the hike.
