Incredible Trail Running route immersed in the history and nature of Cortina d’Ampezzo, from the Sacrario Militare di Pocol to the Belvedere you can admire the thousand facets of the Ampezzo valley. The route winds northwest, in the Tofane area.
Starting from the centre, head towards the Lungo Boite bridge and cross it. Then go left and before the car park take the sloping road on the right. Climb up through the village of Crignes. At a certain point the road forks: continue uphill on the right towards Melères: these are villages that have remained almost intact where it is possible to admire the Ampezzo architecture and imagine what life was like in the past. Once you have crossed the village, cross the Strada Statale 48 and enter the village of Lacedel towards the ski slopes, located immediately behind the houses. On the right you should find the Baby chairlift of Socrepes. Take path 403 on your left. Continue into the woods along the path that will take you along the Pocol area and you’ll also be able to observe one of the most famous areas of Cortina in a different period of the year: the Tofane slopes.
The route winds mostly through the woods with slight climbs but as soon as you reach the area of the Sacrario di Pocol, dedicated to the fallen of the First World War, take path 429 on the left. The Sacrario Militare collects the remains of all the fallen soldiers who were present in the various War Cemeteries scattered throughout the Valley, including those of General Antonio Cantore and Lieutenant Francesco Barbieri.
The path will take you past the Military Shrine and the Belvedere, along a descent immersed in the woods towards the centre of Cortina. The route will temporarily stop when it meets Strada Statale 48 but go up this slightly and from the scenic point take the path again. Path 429 will naturally join path 428 and you’ll arrive at Mortisa.
From there you can descend towards the centre of Cortina.
